Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study is to contribute to the planning of tuberculosis control, diagnosis and treatment by evaluating the data and treatment results of foreign-born and Turkish citizens diagnosed with tuberculosis in Ankara between January 2013 and December 2019. Methods: In our study, data collected with the Turkish National Tuberculosis Surveillance Research Forms and treatment results were evaluated retrospectively. After the data was checked, it was analyzed, the number of cases was presented as frequencies, the Chi-square Test was used in statistical analysis, and the statistical significance level (p) was taken as 0.05. Results: There are a total of 4119 cases in Turkish National Tuberculosis Surveillance Research Forms data between 2013 and 2019. While the case rate was 11.5 in 2013, it is 10.5 in 2019. The average age of the cases is 47.6±19.5, 93.1% of them are Turkish Republic citizens. There is a statistically significant difference between the country of birth of the cases and age groups, case type, and location of involvement. There is a permanently significant difference between the location of involvement according to gender and multidrug resistance (p<0.05). Extrathoracic and intrathoracic LAP involvement comes first at %54.0 in non-pulmonary organ involvement, then pleura involvement occurring at 14.1%, and vertebra and non-vertebral bone/joint involvement occurring at 7.6%. When the data regarding the treatment results of 4102 cases between 2013 and 2019 are evaluated, the average age of the cases is 48.24 ± 18.9, 50.4% are male, 93.0% are Turkish citizens, and 93.9% are new cases. Lung involvement is observed in 65.7% of Republic of Turkey male citizens, 58.9% of foreign-born male cases, 51.1% of all T.R. citizen cases. There is a statistically significant difference between gender and involvement in cases of Republic of Turkey citizens. Considering the total tuberculosis patients, the treatment success rate of tuberculosis cases born in the Republic of Turkey is 84.8% and the treatment success rate of tuberculosis cases born in foreign countries is 75.2%, death occurred most frequently in the age group of 65 years and above and 6.5% of the total cases. resulted in death. Conclusion: It has been determined that the frequency of foreign-born tuberculosis cases has increased over the years in Ankara province, the frequency of drug resistance is slightly higher, and the rate of treatment success is lower than in cases of Turkish citizens. Similar mortality and treatment success rates in Turkish citizens and foreign-born patients prove that diagnosis, follow-up and treatment are provided effectively and efficiently in a manner that will eliminate inequalities.
