Problems faced by mothers in baby care and cultural practices

One of the periods in which cultural practices are used intensively is infancy. Some of these applications for the baby are extremely dangerous; It can cause the baby to get sick, injuries, infection, sequelae and even death in the future. For this reason, it is necessary to determine these practices and to plan and implement health services accordingly. The aim of this study; The aim of this study is to determine the problems faced by mothers from two different cultures in baby care and their cultural practices. The population of this cross-sectional study is composed of Turkish and Syrian mothers who are registered in Gaziantep province 25 Aralık and Şehitkamil İstasyon Family Health Centers, and the sample consists of mothers who apply to one of these centers for any reason and meet the inclusion criteria. In this study, mostly in infant care of mothers; It was determined that he faced diarrhea (60.5%), gas pain (60.5%) and diaper rash (56.2%). The problems that mothers mostly apply during baby care; diarrhea (100%), fever (100%), easy sleep (99.5%), rash (99.0%) and cough (99.0%). In addition, it was determined that the majority of mothers (71.4%), with a significantly higher rate in Turkish mothers, had any cultural practice in infant care. For this reason, the cultural practices should be determined and necessary information should be given to the mother about how it affects the baby's health. Nurses, who are primary caregivers, should be provided with knowledge and skills on the importance of cultural care, both during their undergraduate education and through vocational training.
