Evaluation of the efficiency of nursing education given with different methods on anticoagulant drug use

In this research, experimental study model was applied to evaluate the effectiveness of patient education given by different methods for the use of anticoagulant drugs. In the study, the effectiveness of education was evaluated with the increase in knowledge levels, INR values in the therapeutic range, and the development of complications. The aim of the study was to determine the most effective education method for patients who started to use anticoagulant drugs, to increase the knowledge and awareness of individuals about drug use, and to reduce the rate of complication development associated with anticoagulant drug use. The sample of the study consisted of 40 participants who had heart valve surgery in two hospitals in Denizli, met the inclusion criteria, and volunteered to participate in the study. The sample of the study consisted of four groups, three of which were the experimental and one of the control groups, and each group included 10 patients. Pre-test and post-test were applied to all participants. Training has given to the first group by brochure, to the second group by verbal education, and to the third group by video, by the researcher. The fourth group has considered as the control group. As a result of the study, it was determined that there was a significant difference between the pretest-posttest mean scores between the experimental and control groups (p<0.0001). The intra-group significance of the pre-test and post-test mean scores was determined as p<0.015 in the brochure group and p<0.0001 in the verbal and video groups. It was determined that there was a significant difference in the distribution of INR values of the control and experimental groups (p<0.0001). The most complications were found in the control group. No complications developed in the group that received video training. As a result of the study, it was determined that the use of visual and auditory materials in the trainings on the use of anticoagulant drugs increased the effectiveness of the trainings.
