Lars Von Trier cinema in the context of the archetype concept and gender: Antichrist ve Melancholia

Carl Gustav Jung, who brought a different aspect to psychoanalysis grounded by Sigmund Freud, aims to understand the human soul through archetypes such as Persona, Shadow, Anima, Animus, mother, a heroine (creator-destroyer), and God image in Analytical Psychology, which he developed with his methods. Artworks, the products of an artist's soul world, can also be reconsidered within this archetypal framework, with different criticism methods. In this study, "Antichrist" and "Melancholia" films by Lars Von Trier, who is one of the bigs of the cinema, which are very similar to dreams that form the basis of psychoanalysis, have been criticised based on Jung's archetypes and gender. Trier's films, which reconstruct and show women's representations in society, were analysed interdisciplinary, from the aspect of women as the creator and destroyer to women's relationship with nature, through archetypal images and motifs. How gender roles, stereotyped by gender, were reflected on the screen was examined also.
