Abstract (EN)

In this study, phytochemical contents and antiproliferative, antioxidant, insecticidal and enzymatic activities of some endemic Centaurea species (Asteraceae) from Cankiri province (Centaurea paphlagonica ve Centaurea cankiriense) were investigated. Bioactivity guided isolation procedures were performed on their extracts with antiproliferative activity against HeLa cells. One new nitrogen containing [CPÇ-12 (Paphlagonica-1); 5-amino-1-diazenyl-3,4-dihydroxy-1,5-dihydro-2H-pyyrole-2-one] and thirteen known compounds from flower part of C.paphlagonica (CPÇ); one new [CPGY-8 (Paphlagonica-2); 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-3,3'-dimethoxy-6-O-β-D-glucoside] and eleven known compounds from stem part of C. paphlagonica (CPGY), and two new [CCGY-5 (Cankiriense-1); morelosin 3-O-β-D-glucoside and CCGY-9 (Cankiriense-2); jaceosidin-7-O-β-D-glucose-[1→3]-O-β-xylose] and seven known compounds from flower part of C. cankiriense were isolated. Molecular structures of the isolated compounds were revealed by spectroscopic methods like 1H, 13C, DEPT, HMBC, HSQC, COSY, NOESY, ROESY NMR, FTIR and MS. CPGY-12, CPGY-10, CPGY-11 and CPGY-7 showed the highest activities against HeLa cells with IC50 values of 26.0, 50.0, 103.0 and 153.0 µM, respectively. Additionally, CPÇ (EO) and CPÇ (EA) extracts showed high insecticidal activities against Sitophilus granarius, whereas CCGY and CCK extracts showed very good hydratase activity against CA-I enzyme and CPÇa (M/K) extract showed very good hydratase activity against CA-II enzyme. CPÇ (EA), CPÇ (He3), CCGY (EA) and CCGY (n-Bu) extracts were determined to have antioxidant activities similar to, in some tests hihger than, the positive controls.
