Abstract (EN)
Values education has become one of the most important issues in our contemporary education system. The increasing influence of popular culture with the spread of social media tools has led societies to focus on the field of values education in order to protect their culture. Literature, which has been one of the most effective disciplines in the transfer of culture and values from past to present, directly contributes to values education with the written and oral works it contains in this field. Many studies have been conducted based on the usability of literary works, which are tools for values education, and their suitability has been examined. These values have been sprinkled into the curriculum as "ten root values" so that students can grow up as conscious and responsible citizens. In addition, children's literature writers also work in this context in their works. Asuman PORTAKAL is one of these writers. In this study, all of Asuman Portakal's books were examined in terms of ten root values (justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, patriotism, helpfulness, responsibility) included in the 2019 Turkish Curriculum. In our study, document analysis technique, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. In the findings section, the data obtained under the relevant value heading are presented with examples from the texts. Based on the findings obtained in our study, evaluations were made on the extent to which Asuman Portakal's examined children's books reflect the ten root values. It was discussed whether the value of self-control was particularly intense in the author's narratives, and whether these works were texts that could be used in terms of values education was emphasized.
