Abstract (EN)
Introduction and Objective: Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia. Ischemic complications are associated with clinically poor outcomes. Inflammation plays a role in the pathogenesis of atrial fibrillation. In our study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the systemic immune inflammation (SII) index, which has recently been found to be associated with cardiovascular diseases, and atrial fibrillation and ischemic complications. Method: The files of patients with AF who were interned due to ischemic complications and consulted to the Cardiology Department at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Dursun Odabaş Medical Center between 01.01.2021 and 31.12.2023 were retrospectively reviewed. The gender, age, additional diseases, and laboratory tests of the patients were scanned from the hospital automation system. Consultation texts and echocardiography reports written by the Cardiology Department were examined. Data regarding the clinical course and deaths of the patients were scanned from the epicrisis notes. Results: 100 patients and 100 controls were included in the study. 57% of the participants were women. In our study, a significant effect of the 790 cut-off value of the SII index was observed in distinguishing the case group from the control group. In addition, it was found that the SII index, glucose, neutrophil and white blood cell values were significantly higher in the ex patient group compared to the non-ex patient group, and the HDL value was significantly lower. In addition, it was found that diabetes mellitus, one of the comorbid diseases, was significantly more common in the ex group compared to the non-ex group. Conclusion: It was found that the SII index had a significant relationship with ischemic complications due to AF. It was also found that this index was associated with mortality. We think that this index can be used as a predictor of complications and mortality in patients followed up with AF.
