Architectural and structural evaluation of high-rise buildings with atrium

Built in 1967 in Atlanta, the Hyatt Regency hotel project inspired many similar projects and was a turning point that changed the role and importance of the atrium in architecture. The use of atria in tall buildings has become widespread due to the architectural benefits provided by the use of atria in this building. In this study, the architectural, structural and atrium features of eighteen randomly selected examples of high-rise buildings with atria were investigated and compared in order to examine the historical development of high-rise buildings with atria and to make an architectural and structural evaluation. In the introduction part of the study, the purpose, scope and limitations of the study and the methodology of the study are explained. In the second part of the study, the definition of high-rise building, the development process of high-rise buildings, the structural systems of high-rise buildings, the development process of buildings with atrium, the definition of atrium, atrium usage purposes, atrium typologies, positive and negative effects of atrium are explained. In the third part of the study, eighteen examples of high-rise buildings with atria are introduced and analyzed in terms of architecture, structural system and atrium features. In the fourth part of the study, the examples analyzed in terms of architecture, structural system and atrium features are compared in terms of architecture, structural system and atrium features. In the conclusion part of the study, evaluations were made in line with the information obtained during the thesis study and the data obtained from the comparison of the examples.
