Determination of type 2 diabetes risk and affecting factors in adult individuals applying to aydin Adnan Menderes University Education Family health center no.25

Background and Aim: Diabetes Mellitus is one of the most important public health problems all over the world. Type 2 diabetes accounts for 90-95% of all diabetes cases. The prevalence of diabetes standardized by age and gender in Turkey has increased in recent years and reached 13,7%. Therefore, early diagnosis and regular treatment are very important and awareness of diabetes should be increased in the society. With this study, it is aimed to determine the diabetes risk and related factors of adult individuals who apply to Aydın Adnan Menderes University Education Family Health Center No.25, to contribute to lifestyle change and early diagnosis by giving a short briefing to individuals with high risk and raising awareness about the issue. Materials and Method: Our cross-sectional, descriptive study was comleted with 312 people who applied to Aydın Adnan Menderes University Education Family Health Center No. 25 between February and April 2023. A questionnaire including questions about some socio-demographic characteristics, general health information and nutritional status and the 8-question FINDRISK scale were administered to the participants by face-to-face method. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 18.0 statistical program. Results: The mean age of the participants was 35,15±15,24 (between 18-80 years), 59% (n=184) were female, and 62,2% (n=194) were single. The FINDRISK total score average of all participants was 8±5,32, which was significantly lower for students. According to the assessment criteria, the risk of developing type 2 diabetes within ten years was found to be 'mild risk'. Conclusion: The rate of people with high and very high risk of type 2 diabetes was 14,1%. It is extremely important to adopt a healthy diet and active lifestyle to reduce the risk of diabetes. For this reason, it is of great importance to identify individuals with high risk and to take necessary precautions. Key words: Type 2 diabetes, Risk, Diabetes risk score
