Evaluation of the historical development of bağlama type long necked stringed instruments in the context of music cultural heritage

Baglama type instruments; It is widely used in Anatolia, the Balkans and Asian societies. These instruments hold an important place due to the symbolic meaning and cultural accumulation they carry in the rituals, conversations, celebrations and artistic activities that shape the daily life of the people. Focusing on the development process that baglama type instruments went through under the influence of civilizations in which they were used, the study aims to document academically the changes and transformations that these instruments have undergone from the time they first appeared on the stage of history to the present day and to evaluate them on the basis of cultural heritage. In the research study in which qualitative research methods were used, document review pattern and literature review technique were applied. Accordingly, academic publication literature such as domestic and foreign books, journals, articles and theses on the disciplines of archaeology, musicology and cultural heritage were examined, and relevant sections were included in the working texts for documentation (archiving). In addition, archaeological museums in different provinces were visited in order to obtain rich findings regarding the research. The data obtained as a result of the research were analyzed with a descriptive method and interpreted in the results and recommendations section of the study. Based on the research findings, it has been concluded that baglama-type long-necked instruments appeared on the stage of history during the Sumerian Kingdom, were used in the Mesopotamian and Egyptian Civilizations, were adopted and developed among the Turkish peoples living in Anatolia, Asia and the Balkans and other nearby communities, and have been transferred to the present day as a musical cultural heritage.
