Abstract (EN)
Hyperparathyroidism is a condition characterized by high levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) or a high decreased sensitivity to parathyroid hormone. Parathyroid disease often leads to osteoporosis, kidney stones, hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, and kidney failure. The duration of hypothyroidism and the severity of the symptoms are related, and it may cause pleural and pericardial effusion and even congestive heart failure in later stages. In this study, the relationship between hyperparathyroidism and heart disease was investigated through a retrospective study. The study group consisted of 40 patients with high thyroid hormone and 40 thyroidectomies and 40 normal cases. All cases and controls were prospectively studied at the Training and Research Hospital in Iraq's Nasiriyah Heart Center. 11 different parameters were investigated in blood serum samples for all cases. Serum PTH, TSH, Free T4, Free T3, LDL, HDL, cholesterol, triglyceride, calcium (Ca++) and vitamin D levels of the patients were examined. In the study, a positive relationship was found between TSH and PTH, as there was a significant increase in levels of cholesterol, TG and LDL, and a significant decrease in HDL level. Vitamin D increased and calcium decreased in patients with parathyroidectomy compared to the control group. This result shows that there is a positive relationship between thyroid hormone and heart problems. Considering the HDL, LDL, total cholesterol and triglyceride levels of the patients, it can be said that triglyceride and total cholesterol biomarkers can be considered as risk markers.
