The retrospective research of the first six months infants feeding

Our research, which was aimed to investigate the nutritional status of exclusively breastfed infants who were between 6-9 months followed in a family health center and study the factors affecting it, was planned and carried out as descriptive and it was completed with the participation of 120 mothers and their babies between. November 2013 - May 2014 with taking necessary permissions. Data forms were prepared in the line of literature by the researcher and they were collected by using questionnaire and by interviewing mothers face to face. The data that was obtained in the research was analyzed with SPSS for Windows 15.0 licensed software. While assessing the data, along with the descriptive statistical methods (Number, Percentage, Average, Standart Deviation) Chi-squared test was used. The 14 variables in the Chi-square analysis, which had significant effect on duration of feeding with breast milk, were examined using logistic regression analysis. The results were evaluated between %95 confidence interval, at 0,05 significance level. According to the findings of the research, the average age of the mothers was found as 27,91±5,40 years old. %47,50 of babies were females while %52,50 of babies were males and the average age of the babies was established as 222,66±45,34 days old. The average of exclusive breastfeeding time was found as 3,45±2,44 months and the average of complementary feeding's startup time was found as 3,39±2,43 months. When affecting factors of exclusive breastfeeding were examined; it was found to be effective that mother's family composition, taking health care support about breast milk and breastfeeding on postpartum, mother's birth type, as regards the first six months of sleep, the baby's frequent awakenings at night, baby's night breastfeeding, using pacifier and feeding bottle, given the first complementary food and suggestion of starting complementary feeding, practicing to increase breast milk, cause of complementary feeding is not sufficient milk/baby's cry, time to complementary feeding, thinking is needed and feeling the breast is empty (p<0,05).
