The realization level of the aims of physical education field courses in physical education and sports teacher training programme

The general aim of the education is to help individuals to live in accordance with thecommunity by improving their physical, emotional, cognitive and motionaldevelopment. These aims are realized at schools which are planned and regularactivities which are applied by experts. Schools are responsible for instruction ofdifferent courses to improve individual?s physical, emotional, cognitive developmentsaccording to education programmes that are formed with respect to the needs of thesociety and individuals. One of the courses that improves students? motional, cognitive,emotional, social and esthetics development is Physical Education.To realize the aims of Physical Education and Sports courses including in educationalprogramme of elementary and secondary schools, Physical Education and Sportsteachers must obtain qualifications of knowledge of skill, value and attitudes that areindicators of the fields of general culture courses, Physical Education field courses andprofessional education courses that form the three dimensions of teacher trainingcourses. At this point, it is important to know the realization of level of educationprogramme?s aims of the candidate teachers who will be Physical Education teachers atthe end of the teacher training courses to improve the education programmes both for inservice and pre service education. The aim of this research is to define the realizationlevel of aims of Physical Education field courses in Physical Education and SportsTeacher Training Programme according to the ideas of the candidate Physical Educationteachers.The research is conducted on 260 candidate teachers who are the 4th class of 8department that trains students as Physical Education teachers. The research is adescriptive model and the data has been obtained by a questionnaire. At the first part ofthe questionnaire, there are some questions to define the individual characteristic, at thesecond part, there are 146 items to define the realization of the aims, at the third part,there are 12 items to define the opinions about the environment of Physical Educationfield courses. SPSS for windows 13.0 is applied to analyze the data and frequency,percent and arithmetic means are applied as statistical techniques.In the research, the realization level of the aims of the field knowledge courses in thePhysical Education and Sport Teacher Training Programme are those; the most aims arealmost at middle level and the aims of most courses are also at middle level. In additionto these, the findings related to teaching environment are resulted in such that thematerials that are used in theoretical and practical courses are efficient but they haven?tbeen modernized in accordance with the development of the field; the number ofclassrooms that are used for theoretical classes and teachers are efficient but the numberof sports facilities and teachers aren?t efficient; neither the classrooms of theoreticallessons nor the classrooms of practical lessons are crowded, the students can utilizesports facilities whenever they want, and the installation (lightening, air condition,heating) is efficient. It is also defined that the elective classes aren?t selected inaccordance with the students opinions.
