Investigation of perceived stress levels and levels of aggression and anger in sportspersons with disabilities

The aim of this study was to compare the perceived stress level, the levels of aggression and anger levels of physically disabled athletes according to age, gender, perceived income level, years of sportspersonship and sports branch and to examine the relationship between perceived stress level and aggression and anger levels. The study included 152 physically disabled athletes aged 18 years and over who were active in sports. In the study, Personal Information Form, Aggression and Anger in Sport Scale consisting of "Aggression", "Anger", "sub-dimensions" and Perceived Stress Scale were used. After obtaining the necessary permissions, the managers and coaches of the physically disabled sports clubs were contacted and informed about the study, and after their approval was obtained, the data collection tools were applied as a survey to the physically disabled athletes who participated in the study voluntarily through their managers and coaches. In the study, independent t-test to determine whether there is a statistically significant difference between the scores obtained by physically disabled athletes from the Perceived Stress and Aggression and Anger in Sport Scale and demographic variables, Shapiro Wilk Test for conformity to normal distribution and Pearson Correlation analysis were applied to determine whether there is a statistically significant relationship. As a result, a low level statistically significant linear relationship was found between Anger and Aggression variables (r=0.315, p<0.001). A high level statistically significant linear relationship was found between Anger and SSAS_Total variables (r=0.790 p<0.001). The results indicate a highly statistically significant linear relationship between aggression and SSAS_Total variables. (r=0.831 p<0.001). The study suggests that as athletes' satisfaction with their sports increases, there is a decrease in both aggression and stress levels.
