Bedreddin Ibn Jamaa's views on the science of grammar in his work titled "Sharh al-Kafiya li Ibn al-Hājib"

Arabic grammar is a field whose rules and principles have been handled and developed by many scholars in the historical process and brought to the present day. Each of them brought new impetus to the correct use of Arabic, the language of the Qur'an, with their works. One of them is the work of Bedr al-Dīn Ibn Jamā'a's Sharḥ al-Kafīya li'bni al-Hājib, which is the subject of this study. This work is a commentary on the famous linguist Ibn al-Hājib's book of grammar titled al-Kāfiya. Therefore, the fact that the grammatical aspect of Bedr al-Dīn Ibn Jamā'a, who is known for his different aspects other than his linguistics, has not yet been studied in our country has made this research necessary, and it is aimed to contribute to the elimination of the deficiency in this field. In addition, in this study, the views are analyzed with the help of Ibn Mālik al-Tā'i, al-Asterābādī and 'Abd al-Rahman al-Jāmi's commentaries on al-Kāfiya, and other commentaries are excluded from the subject. After discussing the author's life and scholarly personality, the work titled Sharh al-Kafīya li al-Bni'l-Hājib was analyzed. In this way, general information such as the sources, persons and evidences used in the work are given and presented in tables. Here, it was determined that Ibn Jamā'a mostly used Arabic poetry as evidence. Evidence from hadiths was also used, albeit to a lesser extent. Although the author is close to the Basra school in terms of grammar, he followed an eclectic path by adopting the views of the Kufa school. As a result of this study, it was observed that Ibn Jamā'a used a comprehensible style without drowning the subjects in detail. At the same time, the author clearly states whether he agrees or disagrees with certain views and does not neglect to use a critical language by providing justifications for them. In this respect, the work differs in style from the other commentaries consulted in this study.
