Badraddin b. Malik and his role in science of rhetoric

Badraddin Ibn Malık lived in a turbulent period when powerful states were destroyed and new states were established. However, Damascus, due to the peace and stability, became a center of science, especially rhetoric. The Arabic rhetoric, which we think was influenced by ancient civilizations, began to show itself in areas such as poetry and rhetoric in the early periods of Jahiliyya (Pre-Islam Era) and Islam. In the first period of the Abbâsid State, it gained momentum because of the interactions of different cultures and civilizations and completed the formation process in the century in which the author lived. During this period, Badraddin Ibn Malık wrote a work named al-Misbah fi Ihtisar al-Miftah. As it can be seen, the work, which is a turning point sample of rhetoric in terms of time and ground, collected the contents of the references written before it and transferred it to what were written later. The work, which acts as a bridge in the science of rhetoric, also reveals the importance of the author in the field. In the introduction part of the study, which consists of an introduction and three parts, similar studies with the topic, scope, purpose, method and sources of the research are handled. In the first part, the life, personality and works of the author are examined. In the second part, the scientific and cultural background of the century in which the author lived, the history, definition, sections and schools of the science of rhetoric were studied. In the third part, the author's work titled "al-Misbâh fî Ihtisâr al-Miftâh" was be analized and her opinions were evaluated within the framework of language and style that is used in the science of rhetoric.
