Character analysis in Behçet Mahir's tales

Behçet Mahir's tales are narratives with a rich character cast that contains types which have taken root in within Turkish folklore. The characters within the cast of the tales differ according to their purpose either as positive or negative in the narrative. Manuscripts assembled from Behçet Mahir will be examined according to V Propp's constructive approach. The aim is to sort and analyze the cast within the excerpts with Propp's method. In the study's "Introduction" part, our research's topic, scope, aim and methods used has been metioned.Additionaly; Behçet Mahir's life and its relation with the characters in the tales has been touched upon.In chapter 1, explanations and critisms regarding the notions used in typology studies has been given.Meanwhile, hypothetical information regarding constructive method has been given.The way constructive method is being used in character examinations has been mentioned.In chapter 2, the sorting of the characters within Behçet Mahir's tales has been made and supported by the action examples in accordance with the constructive method.The characters's function according to the method has been determined and characters's transition between roles according to the actions committed in the structural unit of the narrative has been detected. In the "Conclusion" part of the study, the data obtained according to the constructive method has been evaluated as a whole. Also determinations and evaluations regarding the character choices of the narrator has been made.
