Abstract (EN)

Objective: The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between resilience, procrastination, ruminative thinking style and somatization of individuals in the emerging adulthood between the ages of 18-30 living in Turkey. Method: The sample of the study consists of 403 people (Female=308, Male=91) in the 18-30 age range. Data were collected by online questionnaire using convenient sampling method. Informed Consent Form, Sociodemographic Information Form, Psychological Hardiness Scale, A Procrastination Scale-15, Ruminative Thought Style Questionnaire (RTSQ), and Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ) Somatic Symptoms (PHQ-15) were applied to the participants respectively. The data obtained in the research were analyzed with the SPSS 25.0 program. Result: As a result of the study, it was found that the level of resilience had a negative predictive effect on the level of somatization, the level of procrastination had a positive predictive effect on the level of somatisation, and the ruminative thinking style had a positive predictive effect on somatisation. As a result of multiple regression analysis, it was determined that resilience and ruminative thinking style were predictors of somatization, while procrastination did not predict somatization. As a result of the mediation analysis made with Process Macro v4.2 Model 4, it was seen that ruminative thinking style has a mediating role in the relationship between resilience and somatization. In addition, it was found that the level of somatic symptoms differed statistically according to sociodemographic variables such as gender, age, employment status, painkiller use, education level, perceived income status and frequency of doctor visits due to somatic complaints. Conclusion: In the study, the relationship between resilience, procrastination, ruminative thinking and somatization were examined and statistically significant results were found. It has been found that a high level of resilience can reduce the occurrence of somatization symptoms, and a high level of procrastination and ruminative thinking can increase somatization symptoms. The negative effects of somatization on individuals are known. It is thought that resilience, ruminative thinking style and procrastination may be important variables in reducing individuals' experiencing somatic symptoms.
