Abstract (EN)
Purpose: The present study aimed to monitor the clinical outcomes of prostatic artery embolization as a minimally invasive procedure in Benign Prosthetic Hyperplasia. Material and Methods: A total number of 30 elderly patients with benign prosthetic hyperplasia (BPH) who are at high risk for anesthesia due to old age and comorbidities were followed up and underwent prostatic artery embolization at our clinics between 2012 and 2016 were included in this study. The changes in prostate volume, PSA, uroflowmetry results (Qmax, Qmean) and IPSS values recorded at post-procedural months 1, 3, 6 and 12 were compared to the pre-procedural measurements. Findings: Totally 30 patients were included in this study. At the post-procedural 12th month, mean prostate volume of patients was found to be decreased from 68 cm3 to 45 cm3 (p=0.001). Mean PSA level at the post-procedural 12th month was found to be decreased from 4.9 ng/dl to 2.8 ng/dl (p=0.001). Mean uroflowmetric maximum flow rate (Qmax) increased from 0 ml/sec to 12 ml/sec (p=0.001) and mean uroflowmetric flow rate (Qmean) increased from 0 ml/sec to 8 ml/sec (p=0.001) at the post-procedural 12th month. Mean value of international prostatic symptom score (IPSS) was found to be decreased from 35 to 16 at the post-procedural 12th month (p=0.001). None of the patients developed a significant complication. Conclusion: In BPH patients who cannot be anesthetized due to age and comorbidities, Prostatic Artery Embolization can be safely and effectively performed as a minimally invasive procedure.
