A sociological research on surveillance society of information technologies

The phenomenon of surveillance has been a model of behavior that has existed since the existence of humanity. It is possible to say that the concept of surveillance derives from the word "eye" and information technologies are its closest tool. In almost all societies since ancient times, surveillance has been an important tool of the powers of power that ensure social control and supervision. Over the years, society has been subjected to changes and transformations in economic, political, social and cultural fields. With the changing social structure, some transformations have also occurred in the structure of surveillance. This study, which comprehensively addresses the transformation of surveillance from history to the present day, especially with the internet and information technologies, has reached the fact that we are faced with a fluidized surveillance through the impact of the internet and information technologies. Surveillance practices, which for many years have been carried out through the sense of sight, are now carried out not only through individuals, but also through various technological tools such as tracking devices, cameras, the internet, listening devices, satellite systems, telephones and computers. With the continuous development of information technologies in almost every field, all geographical borders have been eliminated. These technologies, which turn life into a global space, have led to the voluntary violation of privacy, the destruction of security, and the disappearance of the distinction between private and public space through the use of the internet or social networks. Therefore, privacy, which has always maintained its importance throughout history, has started to be violated more today with the transformation of information technologies and surveillance.
