Abstract (EN)
This thesis work consists of the presentation and application of an information system based on "Integrated Conservation" approach for the conservation of historical environment with the following criteria:. suggest a common conservation terminology,. ease the coordination and information flow within experts in the conservation area,. include and reuse results of prior work In the first section it has been shown that the traditional conservation systems are not well-suited anymore for the growing demands of todays conservation systems because of their bottlenecks inherent to their design and/or methodolgy such as the lack of data sharing or long manual processing times of huge data blocks. Keeping all of these disadvantages in mind the underlying methodology for a new information system for architectural conservation has been suggested superior to nowadays existing classification systems but yet simple in the design. Second section is the result of a cooperative work with computer engineers to obtain the implementation specifics of this methodology from both an architects and a computer engineers points of view so the resulting application system has all the necessary data structures pertaining to the storage and retrieval of architectural structures as required in an conservational information system and as well as an easy to use "Graphical User Interface" for the end-user. To test the applicability of the new-proposed system the architectural values and organization principles of the traditional urban pattern of Gaziantep has been evaluated using the "Anatolian Ottoman Settlement- Islamic Settlement" model. The required input like castles, trading patterns, religous and public buildings, mahalla and streets etc. are obtained from the information system using interactive queries. The results of these queries combined with the historical and geographical data of Gaziantep with respect to the cities physical establishment and evolution are presented at the end of this section. As a conclusion it has been shown that the "Computer Aided Historical Environment Protection Information System" is very well applicable to a wide range from the basic building elements to historical and archeological sites. Also some suggestions for future enhancement of the proposed information system is included at the end of the convolution section. IX
