Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of anemia in the geriatric patient population in Bingöl. The aim of the study was to determine how anemia was affected by sociodemographic characteristics and factors such as treatment in hospital, and to evaluate anemia according to morphological, age groups and anemia severity level in individuals with anemia. The study was conducted retrospectively in geriatric patients admitted to Bingöl State Hospital. According to WHO criteria, anemia was considered to be less than 13 gr/dl in men and 12 gr/dl in women. The incidence of anemia was determined in both inpatients and outpatients, and in men and women. Patients with anemia were classified morphologically. Anemic patients were divided into severe, moderate and mild anemia. In addition, geriatric patients with anemia were divided into 65-74, 75-84 and 85 and older groups. Minitap package statistics program and exel were used to evaluate the results. The total number of patients included in the study was 11621 individuals. 6292 of them were women and 5329 were men. Inpatients consisted of 2142 (18.43%) and 9479 (81.57%) of the outpatients. The incidence of general anemia was 24.71%. The incidence of anemia was 21.72% in women and 28.25% in men. The incidence of anemia was 46.51% in inpatients and 19.79% in outpatients. The highest incidence of anemia was found in male patients (47.97%). Anemia was also found in 44.70% of the inpatients. The prevalence of anemia was determined as 22.57% in geriatric men and 17.62% in women. Anemia was found to be severe in 205 (7.15%) patients, moderate in 563 (19.62%), mild in 2101 (73.23%) patients. Microcytic was found in 619 (21.59%), normocytic in 2129 (74.21%) and macrocytic anemia in 121 (4.22%) patients in geriatric anemia. Anemia rate increased with increasing age. The highest rate of anemia was found in 67.35% of male inpatients over 85 years of age. Geriatric patients had more anemia than male patients. Anemia was higher in outpatients than outpatients. Anemia was evaluated in geriatric patients. This study may contribute to the development of public health programs for the detection and correction of anemia in the elderly. Further studies of anemia in the geriatric population are needed. Key words: Geriatric patients, anemia, status evaluation
