Abstract (EN)

Purpose: In the study, considering that PPARγ may have a role in bipolar disorder pathophysiology, it is aimed to compare PPARγ levels between bipolar disorder patients and healthy controls, to examine the relationship between PPARγ with metabolic parameters and to compare N / L, M / L, P / L, MPV ratios between the two groups. Method: In the study, 40 patients diagnosed with BD according to DSM-V criteria and 40 age and sex-matched healthy controls who applied to Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Yenimahalle Training and Research Hospital Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Diseases Clinic during remission period were included. Sociodemographic and clinical data form, Young Mania Rating Scale and Children's Depression Rating Scale were applied to the patient and healthy control groups. Also, height, weight, waist circumference and systolic-diastolic blood pressure measurements were performed to the patient and healthy control groups. Moreover, PPARγ levels, metabolic parameters, and whole blood parameters were measured by taking complete blood and serum samples from control groups. Results: In this study, statistically PPARγ levels were found to be significantly lower in BD patients in the euthymic period compared to healthy controls. Furthermore, the presence of MetS in the BD group was found to be significantly higher than the healthy control group. In addition, M / L, P / L, MPV values were found significantly higher in the BD group compared with the healthy control group. Conclusion: Compared to healthy controls, the PPARγ level, which is an anti-inflammatory marker, was found to be low and M / L, P / L, MPV levels, which are inflammatory markers, were found to be high in BD patients during the remission period. The impaired balance between inflammatory and anti-inflammatory in the BD group and the fact that MetS is seen more frequently in BD supports the presence of immune dysfunction in this disease group. The fact that PPARγ acts as a potent anti-inflammatory agent through its indirect interaction with transcription factors and affects the fat and glucose metabolism suggests that this molecule may be a biomarker in BD etiology in terms of diagnosis and follow-up and/or be associated with metabolic disorders in BD and used in its treatment.
