Abstract (EN)

Determination of Salt Consumption of Teachers in a Public School The aim of this study was to find out the salt consumption status of teachers working in a public school in Istanbul; Between December 2018 and March 2019, a total of 85 teachers, 66 women and 19 men, aged between 24-63 years, took place in Yenibosna Fatih Secondary School in Bahçelievler, Istanbul. The questionnaire which consisted of four parts determining the personal information of the teachers, health status and lifestyles, nutritional status and salt consumption status was applied by face to face interview method. In order to determine the salt consumption of the teachers, three-day food consumption records were taken. As a result of the research, SPSS 20 program was used for statistical evaluation of data and BEBIS program was used for evaluation of food consumption record data. Descriptive statistical methods (frequency, ratio, mean, standard deviation), Mann-Whitney U Test and Kruskal-Wallis Test were used to evaluate the findings. It was determined that the teachers (75.3%) used iodized table salt (refined) mostly. The average daily sodium consumption of the teachers was 2819,10 ± 943,22 mg. When the sodium consumption of the teachers was examined according to gender, the sodium consumption of the males was found to be significantly higher than the females (p<0.05). As a result; salt consumption of teachers is above the daily requirement. For a healthy life, it is important to reduce salt consumption as much as possible. It is thought that there is a need for informing teachers about salt consumption and interventions that restrict salt consumption. Key words: Nutrition, Health, Sodium requirement, Salt consumption
