Evaluation of the effect of employee's psychological strength levels on work motivation and work stress levels in a public hospital

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of psychological resilience levels of employees in a public hospital on their work motivation and work stress levels. The population of the study consists of healthcare professionals working at Süreyyapaşa Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery Training and Research Hospital located in Maltepe district of Istanbul. By discussing with the hospital management, it was learned that the number of the research population was 692. The sample of the research consisted of 295 healthcare professionals who agreed to participate in the study, determined by systematic sampling. To obtain the data, the Socio-Demographic Information Form created by the researcher, the Work Motivation Scale (IMS), the Perceived Work Stress Scale (AESS) and the Connor-Davidson Psychological Resilience Scale (CDPSS) were used. Data analysis was carried out with the SPSS-22 program. Frequency, mean, t test for independent groups, ANOVA, correlation and regression analysis were used to analyze the data. It was found that there was a significant relationship between work motivation and psychological resilience level, between work stress and psychological resilience level,and between work stress and work motivation level. On the other hand, it has been determined that the psychological resilience levels of employees have an impact on work motivation and work stress levels. It is necessary for hospital managements to identify the problems experienced by healthcare personnel, to organize the working environment of healthcare professionals, to have a sufficient number of healthcare workers and to organize shifts fairly.
