Abstract (EN)

Armenians were the second largest group of non-Muslim people in the Ottoman Empire. Armenians, who were in the forefront of trade and art in the Ottoman Empire until the 19th century, started to assume official duties in the state. Nubar Pasha, the father of Boghos Nubar, one of these Armenians, worked as a clerk, translator and in foreign affairs ministry within the khedive in Egypt. After the British invasion of Egypt in 1882, he was appointed Prime Minister twice and continued his services. Boghos Nubar Pasha, son of Nubar Pasha, also held a number of posts in Egypt, where he founded the Armenian General Benevolent Union in 1906. In 1912, occupying an important place in the eyes of the Armenians with this society, Boghos Nubar, was appointed as the President of the Armenian National Delegation by the Etchmiadzin Catholicos and settled in Paris where he continued his activities on behalf of the Armenians. Boghos Nubar, who made great efforts on the Armenian reform until the First World War, ensured the Armenians to fight in the Allied ranks under the name of Eastern Legion following the policies in favor of the Allies during the war. Boghos Nubar, who made good use of propaganda during the war, also provided supporters from various groups and made efforts to establish an autonomous or independent Armenia. During this period, Boghos Nubar attended many conferences, represented the Armenians as the President of the Armenian National Delegation at the Paris Peace Conference and put forward his demands to the conference. This study deals with the activities of Boghos Nubar during and after the First World War and their impact on the Armenian Question.
