Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to reveal the historical background and culture of the Çal region of Denizli province in the Aegean Region. At the same time, the aim is to identify the beliefs and traditions that they maintain within this intensity of cultural interaction and, during the study, to reveal the narratives that are influenced by their historical background, present and past situations, and both culturally and mythologically. Büyük Menderes Basin is a region where settlements have existed since prehistoric times. Pottery findings obtained from many mounds in Çal and its surroundings have shown that there have been settlements in this region since 2000 BC. In our study, Çal region and its villages were discussed from a cultural perspective; Local cultural products have been evaluated functionally in the context of social environment and conditions. Region; It carries various traditional practices depending on the width of the area, the characteristics of the geographical structure and the differences in the socio-economic structure. At the end of the study, it was concluded that the traditional structure was not damaged in the villages of Çal region, but many values and folklore products were lost in the district center; In the transition zone between the two areas, it is seen that some of the traditional practices have been abandoned, while others are continued unconsciously and mostly under the influence of social pressure. Especially ceremonies and practices such as birth, circumcision, engagement, wedding and death continue to exist, although they have changed little. As a result, it is thought that it would be more beneficial for local governments to organize activities other than the "Sudan Sheep Passing Festival" and "Çal Region Grape Harvesting Culture and Art Event", which are organized for tourism in the district, in promoting and protecting the local culture.
