A Research on rural poultry production in some villages in Çanakkale province

SUMMARY A RESEARCH ON RURAL POULTRY PRODUCTION IN SOME VILLAGES İN ÇANAKKALE PROVINCE This research aims at exploring village chicken production system and to put forth the importance of this production. On the other hand it's also aimed at the research how much these products which are obtained from village chicken are enjoyed by the consumers in the city center. Questionnaries have been applied in 10 percent of families living in villages at poor, medium and rich ranges in Çanakkale city center, in order to put forth the relationship of the socio-economic conditions of the villages with the kind and frequency of chicken production. Until now 122 questionnaries have been completed totally in 12 villages which were picked up, taking the possibilities of transportation into consideration. The questionnaries have been directed towards the house-wives. During the time of questionnary, data about the instructions of how village chicken production to be made have been collected. Some of the questions are about the value of eggs and chicken meat. By the help of the data, consumption rate on different animal products has been fixed. Questionnaries given to 100 female consumers in two supermarkets in the town center of Çanakkale included in questions about free-range chicken and eggs. Data concerning village chickens as numeral and portion have been maintained. It is referred to Khi2 analyse to prove the relationship between some data and socio-economic structure. Average annual individual consumption on various animal foods has been calculated and daily animal protein consumption has been determined. The figures of consumption have been evaluated by means of variance analyse. It is fixed that in 12 villages 84.4 percent of families have applied in village chicken production system, and that of 85 percent has made only chicken production. Approximately the amount of shrewd flock in 50 percent chicken production units, is six or less than six. It is fixed that in village chicken production system 30 percent of producers have made their income by selling certain amount of their village chicken production. 4692 percent of family units have a special housing for their chichkens. These housing shelters are small, simple and they have ground basement. Nature incubation system has been largely used. In feeding chicken grain feed and house churns have been widely used. Chcikens are left to go round freely to get their own feed. The urage of industrial feed has been limited. The portion of protein obtained from village chicken production in the total protein consumption is 18.3 percent. This amount has proved the importance of production. The citizen consumers have mainly claimed that they have enjoyed consuming the village chicken and eggs to a great extent. 47
