Historical development and usage areas of Jeli Diwani calligraphy

Diwani Jelli, which is among the varieties of calligraphy, is a writing that emerged after aklâm-ı sitte and developed in Dîwanı Hümayun. Diwani Jelli was initially used only for official correspondence written in the sultan's divan. Diwani Jelli script, which was not written outside the palace at first, was considered as an art script after it started to be used on various plates. This script, in which the sultan's orders were written, brought important developments for art in time with its curved letters and the placement of ornaments with ornamental qualities between the letters. This script, which was used in edicts and certificates, started to be used on plates and coins in time. Diwani Jelli has not been dealt with in detail before, except for a few general researches and examinations of some letters with certain features. In this thesis, it is aimed to introduce the writing by explaining the origin of Diwani Jelli, its nature in terms of calligraphy and the developments of calligraphers.
