Abstract (EN)

This study is based on Hul?sa Fi?t-Tıbb by Cerr?h Mes?ud, a medicine prose dating back to the 15th century. The issue of the manuscript that we studied is registered in Vahit Pasha Collection numbered as 805 in Kütahya Province Public library. It has rich vocabulary in that it deals with a broad field such as medicine. It has a quite diverse terminology from names of plants, diseases, organs and substances used in the making of medicine to seasons, and the theoric vocabulary as to their effects on the human body. These characteristics make it a good reference book for the Turkish linguists who study vocabulary and language features. It is also a book that can be consulted for medicine studies as it includes knowledge relating to medicine and offers the examples for various surgical interventions. The aim of the study based on such a valuable book is to provide the vocabulary resource and language features for those interested in the field. The study consists of three parts: language features, the text, and the dictionary. The introduction discusses the previous studies into compiled works and translations written in the XIV. and XV. Centuries as well as into the reviews of these works. This was followed by the detailed investigation of the book in question along with its subject, sheets and other related studies previously carried out on the same book.Language analysis is based on the differences found in the text considering the modern language characteristics. These characteristics are analysed in terms of orthography, phonology and morphology. The orthographic analysis includes how vowels and consonants are written in text providing examples. Phonologic analysis, on the other hand, includes the sound changes and vowel harmony found in the text. These are then compared to the modern Turkish. Morphologic analysis relates to the different forms different from Turkey Turkish notably to the phonetically different forms. Discourse analysis includes the translated version of the book with transcription. The index includes all the words which are contextually categorized. This part includes a total of 1784 word entries. For each meaning, the context and its number of the line are stated. The etymology of each word is, if possible, indicated with the abbreviations nearby. In the text, 515 Arabic, 198 Persian, 19 Greek, and 958 Turkish words were identified. Therefore, a grammatical index was formed.
