Abstract (EN)
The physical environment characteristics of intensive care units can cause problems such as stress, change in sensory properties, insomnia and disorientation of place-time in patients. Identification of these physical environment characteristics that cause discomfort to patients is very important to prevent these problems. This study was conducted as a descriptive study with 170 patients at the Department of Surgical Intensive Care Unit of 25 Aralık Devlet Hastanesi (December State Hospital) to determine the environmental stressors perceived by the patients in the surgical intensive care unit between 01-12-2016 / 01-06-2017. The data in the study were collected using the "Patient Presentation Form" developed by the researcher and the "Environmental Stressors Scale at the Intensive Care Unit". The data was analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, t test, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis test. Average age of patients is 47.34±18.98. Patients aged between 31-50, high school graduates, non chronic disease, 2 days in intensive care unit and non previous experience in intensive care unit were more affected than other stressors in the intensive care unit and the difference between the groups was significant (p<0.001). It was also found that the single patients were more affected than the married patients in the intensive care unit by the environmental stressors and the difference between the groups was significant (p <0.01).
