Abstract (EN)
marcescens is a growing problem for public health due to its high resistance and its increasing role in nosocomial infections. In this study, it was aimed to determine the species distribution and resistance rates of Serraria strains isolated from various clinics in the Medical Microbiology Laboratory of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Dursun Odabaş Medical Center between January 2006 and May 2018. Identification of Serratia species and its antibiotic resistance rates were obtained from BD Phoenix 100 (Becton Dickinson, USA) device. Species distribution of isolated strains and resistance to antibiotics were retrospectively screened. During the 13 year study period a total of 250 Serratia strains, 210 (84%) S. marcescens and 40 other species (%16) [S. plymuthica (17), S. liquefaciens (15), S. fonticola (4), S. odorifera (3) ve S. rubidaea (1)], were isolated. S. marcescens strains have been found 100% resistant to cefazolin, amoxicillin-clavulanate, ampicillin and nitrofurantoin. No resistance to amoxicillin and levofloxacin was found in any strain. While other Serratia strains were 100% resistant to Cefazolin, ampicillin, nitrofurantoin, no resistance was found in any strains against levofloxacin. In the empirical treatment of infections caused by Serratia species, quinolones, aminoglycosides, carbapenems, ceftazidime, piperacillin-tazobactam and trimethoprim-sulfomethoxazole should be preferred. When the data obtained from similar studies are examined, very different resistance rates are reported in the literature. For this reason, it would be beneficial for each hospital to extract its own data to guide the treatment.
