The effects of kaolin aplication on thefruit quality in walnut cultivation

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the effects of application of kaolin which is a natural clay mineral, in walnut production. The experiment was carried out in 2010 and 2011 growing years and Payne, Serr and Pedro walnut cultivars were used. Kaolin application started in June with %6 and continued with %4 and %2, three weeks of periods between the applications. In this study, the effects of kaolin application to temperature, sunburn, stomata conductance, photosynthetic quantum efficiency, leaf chlorophyll and fatty acids of walnut were investigated. In addition, with help of pomological analyses, the efficiency of the application was examined. As a result of this study, it is determined that, the application of kaolin has a positive effect on development of Payne, Pedro, and Serr cultivars. Among these varieties best results achieved in Serr cultivar. Also it is determined that kaolin application prevents excessive temperature rise of the plant, prevents the stress caused by extreme temperatures, reduces sunburn, and has no negative effect on stomata conductance and chlorophyll. Content. It was found that there is positive correlation between the fruit temperature in june, july and august and the light yellow fruits at the outside of the crown.
