Abstract (EN)
The ability of a designed highway to provide a quality service throughout its predicted service life is directly related to its resistance to deterioration. The roadway's resistance to disturbances is largely dependent on mechanical performance. Climate and temperature are the most important environmental factors affecting the mechanical performance of flexible pavements. For this reason, the temperature values of the region should be taken into account when designing the pavement in any road section. The Silopi-Cizre highway is an important transportation line where border trade through the Habur Border Gate takes place intensively. This road, where transportation is provided by heavy vehicles, is exposed to significant axle loads and stresses together with the large traffic volume. However, the fact that the region is the region with the highest temperatures in Turkey has made the deterioration and deformations in the superstructure inevitable. In this study, the relationship between temperature and mechanical behavior of flexible pavement types in hot regions was investigated, especially on the Silopi-Cizre road, which has deteriorated in many parts due to the reasons mentioned. For this purpose, core samples of asphalt-pavement highways at certain temperatures (20°, 30°, 40° and 50°) are subjected to a series of Marshall stability tests, while C25 concrete and roller compacted concrete (RCC) samples produced in the laboratory are subjected to a series of standard pressure tests. Mechanical performances were compared. As a result of the tests, there is a decrease of up to 52% in the compressive strength of the existing asphalt pavement compared to 50° to 20°, while this rate remains stable for C25 concrete, a 23% increase in strength is observed for RCC samples. As a result, it has been understood that asphalt pavements lose their mechanical performance at high temperatures, and it has been suggested that concrete roads or RCC roads may be preferred instead of asphalt pavement in hot regions.
