Obesity is often defined simply as a condition of abnormal or excessive fat accumulation in adipose tissue, to the extent that health may be impaired. Overweight and obesity represent a rapidly growing threat to the health of populations in an increasing number of countries. Childhood obesity, as well as their related diseases, are largely preventable. Prevention of childhood obesity therefore needs high priority. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between obesity and daily dietary nutrient intakes with hepatic and renal functions. The study was carried out on 50 male and 92 female patients whose ages between 8-18 years at Istanbul Zeynep Kamil women and children diseases training and research Hospital diet clinic between May 2014 and July 2014. Mean BMI for age z-skor value in boys (8 years) was found 4±1.2, in girls (8 years) was found 2.5±0.7, in boys (9-13 years) was found 2.8±0.6, in girls (9-13 years) was found 2.6±0.6 and in boys (14-18 years) was found 2.4±0.2, in girls (14-18 years) was found 2.5±0.8. 16% of boys and 15.2% of girls had at least one chronic disease diagnosis. Most preferred food group in the outside for boys (26%) was toast/sandwich and for girls (15.2%) was hamburger, pizza, pita and so. The mean daily energy intake in overweight individuals was 1811.1±739.3 kcal (820.1-3605.6 kcal) and 2363.9±1156.6 kcal (737.8-8743.7 kcal) in obese individuals (p <0.05). A weak negative correlation was found between the mean protein intake percentage and BUN (blood urea nitrogen) values of individuals (p <0.05). A weak positive correlation was found between the value of the ALT (alanin aminotransferase) values and the carbohydrate percentage, a weak negative correlation was found between the carbohydrate percentage and LDL (low density lipoprtein) cholesterol and BUN value (p <0.05). A weak negative correlation was found between omega-3 fatty acid consumption and BUN values (p <0.05). A weak positive correlation was found between vitamin A, E, B1, B2, Folic acid, B12, B6, niasin and BUN values. A weak positive correlation was found between magnesium, phosphorus, iron, zinc and BUN values (p <0.05). Childhood obesity is an important subject and must be identified and treated by skilled health perofessionals.
