Causes of the Formation of Congenital and Acquired Heart Diseases in Children and the Care Burden of Parents Student's name: Öznur ÖKÇÜ Supervisor: Prof. Gülay GÖRAK Department: Nursing Objective: The study was carried out in a descriptive type to determine the causes of the formation of congenital and acquired heart diseases in children and the care burden of parents. Material and Method: The fathers and mothers of the children with congenital and acquired heart disease between 1 month and 16 years who came to Şişli Florence Nightingale Pediatric Cardiology Polyclinic between September 2016 and February 2017 constituted the population of the study. 50 parents from whom voluntary consent forms were received participated in the research. Data were collected using the questionnaire form and the Zarit care burden scale. The evaluation of data was performed using SPSS 21 on the computer. While frequency, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and percentage of the descriptive statistics were used, Mann-Whitney U for two independent variables from nonparametric tests and Kruskal-Wallis test for more than one independent variable were used in advanced analyses, and Spearman's correlation coefficients were used for relationship analyses. Results: The caregiving burden scale point averages of mothers (28.52 ± 9.661) were found statistically significantly higher compared to the point average of fathers (22.57 ± 5.333). Conclusion: According to the evaluation results, no significant difference was found between the care burden point averages in parents' professions, income status, the number of the mother's pregnancy, the presence of congenital disease in children living, the place of the child with congenital/acquired heart disease in the family order, the presence of someone to help with care, the gender and age of the child. It was determined that the care burden point averages of mothers, those with low education level, close relatives, those without financial support, unemployed and parents over 40 years old were higher.
