The geographical and urban information systems: Ankara Eti̇mesgut, Çankaya and Keçi̇ören municipalities applications and problems

Adaptation of local governments to information technology in our day where informatics becomes more of an issue, being able to maintain their urban activities, attain reliable managerial data of high quality, to take healthy decisions by analyzing accurately the data acquired, to adapt themselves to data-generating institutions and e-government portal, is possible only in case, they use Geographical Urban Information Systems correctly and befittingly. In order to implement and develop Geographical Urban Information Systems more effectively and efficiently in Turkey, projects initiated by several public authorities establishments and organizations and municipalities, especially the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning being at first place, have been put into practice, whereas, there are projects still underway. The purpose of this study is; to set forth the solution proposals on what could be done to increase positive results by detecting the problems in Etimesgut, Çankaya and Keçiören which are district municipalities of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, through applications of "Geographical and Urban Information Systems" which are mandatory to be established and operated as per respective articles of the Metropolitan Municipality Law No: 5216 and Municipality Law No: 5393.
