Opposition in Manisa municipality during transition to multi-party system

The current study covers the organization, national and local election works during the period between the foundation of Democrat Party's Manisa district and municipality organizations and 14 May 1950 national election. In order to help the reader understand the essence of the thesis better, in the introduction part, related terminology in political sciences field is given. The study consists of 3 sections except for the introduction part. In the first section, titled "Transition to the Multi-party System and The Foundation of Opposition Parties" the reasons why National Development Party, Democrat Party and Nation Party were founded were given as well as the information on the foundation of the aforementioned parties, their programs and legislations. The second section, titled "Organization of Opposition Parties in Manisa" starts with providing the names and the foundation dates of the entrepreneur committees of the opposition parties in Manisa city center and districts. It is followed by detailed information about Democrat Party congresses from 1946 to 1950, including the municipality and district committee lists. In the third part, titled "Opposition parties and elections in Manisa" information about 1946 Local Elections, 1496 National Elections, 1949 By-Election and finally 1950 General Election is given along with the list of congressmen, and the status of the opposing parties is investigated, covering their status in Manisa municipality and districts.
