Migration and cultural encounter from multicultural social work perspective: Youth of Afghanistan living in Uşak

This study aims to determine the problems experienced by young people of Afghanistan nationality at the point of cultural encounter and comb through the findings from the perspective of multicultural social work. The study is important in terms of evaluating the cultural encounter processes from the perspective of multicultural social work. The study was carried out within the framework of qualitative research methodology by applying a semi-structured interview form to 25 young people from Afghanistan, living in Uşak, in April 2022. The findings reached in the study were assed descriptively by analyzing with content analysis, and then interpreted and transferred. The results of the study are related to immigrants, especially young Afghans and will contribute to both the field experts and the literature in the solution of these problems. As a result of the findings obtained; It has been determined that the family structure of the Afghan nationals has undergone a great change in the post-migration period, the extended family structure they have in their country of origin has turned into a nuclear family structure after the migration, and the status of women in family life has increased. In terms of working life, it has been observed that working hours are difficult, but the prices received are satisfying. It has been determined that the technology usage period and diversity have increased due to the fact that Turkey is far ahead of Afghanistan in this regard. It has been determined that Turkey is characterized as more comfortable and free in terms of religious life compared to Afghanistan, but in terms of social and cultural life, Afghan youth have significant difficulties in their integration into the existing society due to the lack of support from friends, relatives and neighbors, and the difficulties caused by language, location and direction.
