Analysis of expectations for tourism destinations before and after COVİD-19 period

This study was carried out to draw attention to the possible impact/effects of the Covid-19 outbreak on tourist destinations. In this context, in this study, what kind of changes occurred in fate expectations before and after the Covid-19 period, and the effect of this change on expectations was examined. During the research process, thirteen research questions were developed and three field studies were carried out, including the pre-test process. The qualitative research approach was adopted in the first field study, and data were collected from the participants through the elaborate semi-structured interview form. With the data obtained in the first field research (01-15.06.2020), a questionnaire was designed to be used in the second and third field research. The second field research is a pre-test and was carried out to complete the questionnaire. The third field study (01.02.- 04.05.2021), which adopted a quantitative research design, was carried out with the questionnaire that took its final form. Iskenderun Technical University ethics committee approval was obtained for the data collection forms used in the study. As a result of the analyses, expectations before the Covid-19 period (accommodation, food and beverage areas, transport and general destination) are at the forefront for individual areas, especially in terms of hygiene. However, after Covid-19, it is expected that attention will be paid to hygiene and disinfectant rules and to the use of all areas used collectively. Furthermore, participants stated that while they would prefer to stay in hotels for more accommodation before the Covid-19 period, they prefer to rent houses or villas where individual vacations can be taken after the Covid-19 period. Based on the survey results, there are changes in individuals' expectations and preferences for Covid-19 destinations. Due to these changes, it is estimated that tourist destinations will undergo a restructuring, reassessing tourists' expectations. Key Words : Covid-19, coronavirus, tourism destination, expectation
