The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on parental fear and child's reactions

Covid-19 appeared for the first time in December 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan and has become a pandemic that has affected many people. The disease was assessed as a crisis and measures were taken. In these difficult conditions, it has been seriously affected in children along with adults. This research was conducted with parents with children aged 7-10 years in Denizli province in order to investigate the effect of the pandemic on parental fear and child's reactions. Dec. The study is a descriptive relational type study and a total of 344 parents were included in the study. The data obtained in the research were analyzed using the SPSS Statistics for Windows 25.0 program. Descriptive statistical methods were used while evaluating the data. The average age of the children of the parents was found to be 8.63±2.25, and when the distribution by age was examined, it was found that 51.7% of them were in the 8-9 age group.It was found that the average age of the mothers participating in the study was 35.05±6.26, and the average age of the fathers was 38.61±6.62. The research participants socio-demographic characteristics according to the Covid-19 fear scale scores compared according to the age of mothers and fathers, Covid-19 found a statistically significant difference between scores on the fear scale (p<0.05).It was observed that as the age of the parents increased, the scores of the Covid-19 Fear Scale decreased. It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the Scale of Children's Reactions to the Pandemic Process and the sub-dimension scores of the mothers included in the study according to their age (p<0.05). It has been found that as the average age of mothers decreases, the Scale of Children's Reactions to the Pandemic Process and sub-dimension scores increase. According to the educational status of mothers Covid-19 Fear determined that there was a statistically significant difference between scores on the scale (p<0.05), educational status illiterate/ literate mothers who are not Covid-19 Is the fear scale scores, educational attainment Primary School/ Secondary School were more than mothers. The educational status of mothers of children according to the scale of the pandemic in the process of the reaction and its dimensions determined that there was a statistically significant difference between the scores (p<0.05), educational status of children of mothers with high school responses to the pandemic in the process of scale scores, educational status, literate/ illiterate, and more than college and the mother were determined to be higher. As a result of the study, it was concluded that parents' Covid-19 fear levels affect their children's reactions to the pandemic.
