Investigation of people's coping styles and romantic relationships during the COVID-19 pandemic

The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between stress coping styles and romantic relationship satisfaction of young adults aged 18-30 during the Covid-19 process. Another aim of this research is to examine the relationship between stress coping styles, romantic relationship satisfaction, anxiety level during the Covid-19 epidemic, gender, educational status, living together, personal space, unemployment during the epidemic, and socio-demographic variables. The model of the research is the relational screening model. The study was carried out online. The study group of the research consists of 189 young adults between the ages of 18-30 who lived in Turkey during the Covid-19 epidemic and had/are in a partner relationship. The Sociodemographic Information Form, the Styles of Coping with Stress Scale (SSST), and the Premarital Relationship Assessment Scale (CISS) were used in the study by the researcher were used in the study. In the research, the data were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 package program. In the analysis of data; Independent Sample T-Test, One-Way ANOVA test, Multivariate Correlation Coefficient and Simple Regression analysis were used. As a result of the analyzes made; A significant positive relationship was found between having one's own private space and living alone and effective coping. There is a significant negative relationship between the level of negative impact of the romantic relationship from the pandemic and romantic relationship satisfaction. The results of the analysis showed that there is a significant positive relationship between individuals' coping styles and their romantic relationship satisfaction. In addition, it was determined that gender, which is one of the sociodemographic variables, was significantly associated with relationship satisfaction and anxiety level during the pandemic period. In addition, there is a positive relationship between the concerns of individuals during the pandemic period and their concerns in the last period. The findings of the study were also compared with the literature. Suggestions for researchers and practice were made. Keywords: Relationship satisfaction, coping styles, covid-19, young adult
