Republican Period (1923-1950) Sports diplomacy

Concept of sport; in addition to its features to compete, challenge, become professional by concretizing in various branches and direct the masses today, its effectiveness in the diplomatic field can now be seen as an indispensable condition and it can be considered that it should be considered as a branch of science that can be called sports diplomacy. In this context, the aim of the study is to draw a conclusion about sports diplomacy during the Republican Period (1923-1950) based on the records of T.R. Presidency of the State Archives (DAB), in the light of related archival documents. In this study; by emphasizing the importance of sports diplomacy in international relations, archival research was conducted on Sports Diplomacy in the Republican Period (1923-1950) under the T.R. Presidency of the State Archives. In order to reveal the relationship between Sports and Diplomacy in the Republican Period, the survey model was used. In order to collect the data of the research; related theses, articles, news, printed and periodicals, state archive records were examined in the literature. In the light of the collected data, a literature review was conducted and examples of sports diplomacy in international relations are given. The 362 documents obtained from the T.R. Presidency of the State Archives of the Presidency were evaluated in accordance with the qualitative analysis approach, themes (financial, youth, health, competition, sports, olympics, correspondence, etc.) were created and the relations between these themes were examined. To ensure the reliability of the analysis, 20 randomly selected documents were coded by an expert working in the field other than the researcher. This coding was compared with the coding made by the researcher and the inter-rater reliability was calculated. In the research, it was stated that as a result of the appropriate use of sports diplomacy, positive developments can occur in international relations, countries can consider sports as a strenght, and with sports diplomacy, not only international social mobilityi but also an improvement in economic relations can be achieved, and military conflict can be resolved by sports diplomacy.
