Investigation of the effect of ceramic wall panels as an interior decoration element in Turkish ceramic art in the Republic Period and application examples

The art of ceramics came from the past to the present day with a rich cultural heritage in Anatolia and has been instrumental in the development of Turkish ceramic art in the present Republican Period. Having first started as pottery and later being used as ceramics and porcelain, products of this art centuries later left daily-use practices and have become artwork and industrial work. Although pottery craft is still functional today, it is seen that ceramic structures are preferred as an aesthetic element in interior and exterior ceramic wall panels. In addition to its usage in the field of art, ceramic structures were among the indispensables as industrial products in many technological fields. In this respect, the works of the ceramic artists who contributed to the Republican Period Ceramic Art were examined and researching the application examples of interior ceramic wall panels, they were determined and studied in detail. When the application of interior and exterior ceramic wall panels is examined in general terms, it will be seen that many civilizations in universal dimension used in surface decoration as a decoration element. An example of this is the Ishtar Gate of Babylon in Iraq built in 575 BC. In Anatolia, ceramic wall reliefs are seen more in temples. In this research, such qualitative methods as observation, face-to-face interview and general survey models were used along with literature survey. This research consists of four parts. In the first part "The historical development of Anatolian ceramic art and the architectural tile and ceramic applications used in interior decoration" are given. The second part involves "interior decoration art, space-design relationship and its varieties according to production techniques." The third part involves "Republican period interior ceramic wall panel practices and artists in Turkey," and the fourth part involves "interior wall panel application examples." As a result of this research, it is thought that the application of ceramic wall panel will be role-model.
