Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, clear water scour around bridge piers were investigated within the scope of the TUBİTAK 109M637 project. The experiments were carried out with uniform sediments with median diameter of 3.47 mm and the geometric standard deviation 1.39 in a rectangular flume of 80 cm width, 18.6 m length and 75 cm depth which was available in the Hydraulic Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Department at Dokuz Eylul University. The effective parameters on scour process such as flow intensity, sediment size ratio and densimetric particle Froude number were investigated. The measured final depths of the scours were compared with those computed by using formulas given available literatures. A new empirical formula was proposed at the end of the study.
