Abstract (EN)

Organizational citizenship behaviors are individual behaviors contributing to organizational productivity and being performed voluntarily without expecting any benefit, not included in formal definition of job and that can?t be measured by the formal authority. These behaviors are formed depending on character of the individual, behavior of the leader, characteristics of the organization and features of the job. The studies usually investigated the effects of individual characteristics of the workers, job satisfaction, organizational loyalty, organizational judgment and organizational trust on the organizational citizenship behavior. It is seen in the studies carried out so far that demographical variables affect the organizational citizenship behavior the workers exhibit in different ways. A significant correlation was found for some workers between such variables as time spent in job, age, gender, and educational level and organizational citizenship behavior whereas no significant relationship was for other workers. In the present study, a survey was carried out on 200 workers of and textile company in Istanbul in order to evaluate the organizational citizenship behavior of workers based on their demographical variables. Gender, age, educational level, duration of job, time spent at the current position and the division in which the worker work were determined through the survey prepared to determine the demographical variables. Altruism, conscience, attention, gentleman likeness and civil virtues, which are domains of organizational citizenship behavior, exhibited by the workers in the organization and developed by the Organ were addressed by scale of organizational citizenship behavior. Independent variables of the study consisted of demographical variables (age, sex, education, work years, time spent at the current position and division in which the worker work), and the dependent variables consisted of domains of organizational citizenship behavior (altruism, conscience, attention, gentleman likeness and civil merits). Twenty questions on the scale of organizational citizenship behavior as well as each domain were subjected to reliability analysis. Hypotheses developed between domains of organizational citizenship behavior and demographical variables were analyzed by ANOVA test and T test. Correlation analysis was performed in order to determine power and direction of the relationship between each domain of organizational citizenship behaviors constituting our dependent variables.According to the results obtained, the workers mostly exhibit attention behavior in the organization among the domains of organizational citizenship behavior. No significant difference was found between the answer given by the workers to domains of organizational citizenship behavior according to their being male or female, or their age. It has been seen that a significant difference exists between ?altruism?, ?attention? and ?civil virtues? domains of organizational citizenship behavior and educational level of the workers, between ?altruism?, ?conscience? and ?attention? domains of organizational citizenship behavior and work years in the organization, and ?altruism?, ?gentleman likeness? and ?civil virtues? domains of organizational citizenship behavior and the division in which the worker works.A significant positive relationship was found between altruism and attention domains in the findings obtained to determine power and direction of the relationship between each domain of organizational citizenship behaviors constituting our dependent variables. No significant relationship was found between attention and civil virtues domains.Key words: Organizational Citizenship Behavior, Demographic Variables.
