The reflections of social events on youth in the Demokratic Party period (1957-1960)

With the transition to the multi-party system in Turkey in 1946, significant changes were experienced in youth reconstruction as well. In addition to expressing their opinions in domestic and foreign policy, education, economy, social and cultural domains; the youth organizations that were established and officialized in the period in question gained more self-confidence with these official identities. Between the years 1957 and 1960, they formed a nationalist path by assuming the protection of Atatürk's principles at home and with their approach to the Cyprus Issue in the world. In the same period the ravaged world of Rock and Roll and Strip-Tease dancing became popular among young people in Turkey. Important campaigns were organized to ban these dances, which dissented the youth organizations. During this period, under the influence of the crises at the university, the young people gradually shifted to an anti-government, supportive opposition line. This situation progressed in such a way that it turned into a mass student movement by 1960s. The slogans of "Army, youth hand in hand", leaving a mark on the inexorable student movements, resulted in the Military Coup of May 27.
