Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disorder that has a major influence on physical and psychological health, it is defined by persistent high levels of glucose in the blood (hyperglycemia), This cross-sectional study examined assess the prevalence of distress status in patients with diabetes mellitus and Identify the proportion of the diabetes distress and factors associated with it. The study carried out in AL Habboby Teaching Hospital and Specialized Diabetes and Endocrinology Center in Al- Nasiriya City. The statistical population included all male and female diabetic patients who were diagnosed with diabetes for 5 years and aged 18 years and over and the number of samples was (n = 306). The data was collected using a socio demographic questionnaire form Demographic Data and Diabetes Distress Scale -17 (DDS-17), the interviews were conducted in Arabic, and data were collected by face-to-face interview. Data collection procedures started on December2^th, 2021 to July2^th, 2022. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. According to the results of the study, it was concluded that mean of Score Distress Status in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus is (MS= 2.70) moderate., indicating that there is no significance or relationship between demographic data (gender, education level and marital status) and the general assessment of distress in diabetic patients with a probability value of more than (P > 0.05 )in addition to the results of the study that shows the relationship between the two demographic sciences, there is a relationship between age and years of diabetes and the general assessment of distress in diabetic patients with a probability value less than ( P < 0.05 ). Based on the results of the study, it was recommended that controlling diabetic distress has a positive effect on blood sugar levels in diabetic patients. The prevalence of distress among diabetic patients needs to bear an educational program and develop strategies that are accessible and acceptable to all diabetic patients who suffer from distress.
