From revolution to coup d'etat: An analysis of transition to democracy in Egypt

Since December 2010, the regime changes and the democratisation processes proved to be one of the defining subjects of academic focus. Egypt, as one of the countries that experienced such a democratization process in the so called the "Arab Spring" period, ended the thirty year-long regime and made efforts to bring about democracy. This study aims to uncover whether there is a connection between the democratization process and the revolution itself, by examining the the forces and the actors involved in this transitional era, in light of various democratization theories. As a result of this analysis, which is dominated by the transition theory, it was concluded that the compromise could not be achieved between actors after the revolution affected the democratization process and the transition process ended as a result of the coup.
