Digital game concept: describing A meta-synthesis

This study aims to present the current status of research related to digital game in Turkey, based on the research findings. In the study, the meta-synthesis research method, which is a qualitative research design, was used to synthesize quantitative, qualitative and mixed research findings. Considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 77 studies, 36 Master Theses, 6 Doctoral Theses and 35 Articles, prepared in 2008-2019 by using qualitative, quantitative and mixed research methods that can serve the purpose of this meta-synthesis study, were included in the study. Studies handled in this context; It is grouped under 7 main themes and 34 sub-themes. The positive and negative effects of digital games for individuals in terms of attitude, development, health, education and psychology were observed. As a result, it has been concluded that when digital games are used in a conscious, limited, correct and useful manner, they can support people in daily life physically, mentally, affectively and psychomotorly. However, when used randomly, timelessly, incorrectly and as an empty pursuit, it could cause the individual to experience health problems and also become addicted to games. When frequently used in education, it not only makes learning enjoyable but also increases motivation and academic success. The relationship between the digital game and variables such as gender, age and parental attitude was observed. It is thought that informative studies for children, parents and teachers about digital game will be beneficial. Keywords: Game, Digital Game, Computer Game, Meta-synthesis.
